- Tide and current: Fishponds of Hawaii Experience the history of the Hawaiian fishpond ponds through Carol Araki Wyban’s wonderful prose, stunning illustrations, and incredibly comprehensive research. Wyban outlines the history of the Ali’i fishpond and describes Ka Honua Momona as an organization “actively working in restoration/revitalization.”
- Nā Kai Poʻoloʻoloʻu o Molokaʻi: The Turbulent Seas of Molokaʻi Malia Akutagawa describes how the generations before her passed on their knowledge of using the ‘āina, trusting that it would provide enough food for survival. She also describes the start of the Aloha Āina movement, and the history of fishpond construction on Molokai, which led to abundant ecosystems and Molokai’s reputation of ‘āina momona. Find Ka Honua Momona referenced as caretakers of the Ali’i fishpond with a traditional management approach, which has led to the rebounding of fish populations.
